ICON is a chameleon formed from ViaSwankyCards which eventually grew into tip-topliving and has now expanded into ICON. In my first and much younger life I was doing Architecture and Retail Design. When I came to the USA from South Africa I was not allowed to work due to my visa restrictions, but I was allowed to study. I craved art and took full advantage of the time and energy that I had and studied Graphic Design. My designs turned out to be a more modern, instant and more retail form of art, which all lend to my past. I love the ability to manipulate objects into ideas to form all sorts of art. It was an adventure into another world ‘an entirely new can of worms to play with’.

ViaSwankyCards was started in 2001 and even though we are selling an entirely different product and yes, it has morphed into a more useable company, it’s still my other baby. ICON is almost 3 years old, but retail is in my blood, as from the day I was born, I was born into retail. My father had a store from before I was born till after I left South Africa, “smile, the customer wants to see you smile”, my dad would mutter on a daily basis.
